BLACKDRGN is a katana with a raw, powerful presence, built around dragon symbolism and a heavy, forged aesthetic. It combines industrial folded steel blade and a richly decorated saya, making it a visually striking collector’s piece.
Blade
The blade is made from industrial pattern-welded steel (folded steel), where multiple layers of steel are forge-bonded together to create the characteristic flowing wave pattern. The layered structure is metallurgically integral throughout the blade and gives it its distinctive appearance, it is not a superficial acid etch.
The steel is oil quenched to achieve an even and stable hardness across the entire blade. This results in a balanced combination of strength and durability, while allowing the layered pattern to remain clearly visible through the polishing process.
Along the back (mune) there is also a stone pattern , a rough and decorative surface finish that gives the blade a more raw and powerful impression. This is a visual element and should not be confused with heat treatment or hamon. The blade has a hardness of around 60 HRC.
Tsuba + Tsuka
The tsuba is richly decorated with dragon motifs and made of zinc alloy , with gold-colored details that provide a clear contrast to the blade. The fittings are also made of zinc alloy and follow the same theme.
The handle (tsuka) is wrapped with black ito over genuine stingray leather , in a traditional diamond pattern. The construction is stable and provides a secure grip.
Saya
The Saya is made of lacquered wood with a black base finish and is hand engraved with a dragon motif throughout . The engraving is detailed and runs along the scabbard, giving the sword its distinct identity and name.
Sageo is black with subtle beige accents and tied in a classic style.
