The Last Measure is a powerful and visually uncompromising tanto forged from T10 carbon steel and advanced clay-hardened with Hitatsura hamon , one of the most complex and dramatic tempering lines in traditional Japanese swordsmithing.
The organic, almost chaotic hamon structure spreads over large parts of the blade's surface, creating a vibrant interplay between hardened and softer steel. The result is a blade with a strong character and unique expression, no two are exactly alike.
The black carved saya with flame-inspired detailsand octopus theme enhances the sword's intense aesthetic, while the copper fittings add warmth and depth to the overall impression.
Blade
The blade is forged from T10 carbon steel and advanced clay-hardened according to the traditional method of creating a Hitatsura hamon .
In this technique, clay is applied in varying patterns over the blade before heating and rapidly cooling. The exposed parts are fully hardened while the covered parts retain greater flexibility. Hitatsura is characterized by irregular islands of hardening over large areas of the blade's surface, a high-risk technique that requires precision and experience.
Tsuba & Tsuka
The handle is covered in genuine stingray leather (samegawa) and hand-wrapped in brown cotton for a stable and authentic grip.
The tsuba and fittings are made of copper , which gives a warm tone and a more exclusive expression compared to standard alloys. The copper's natural luster and detailing enhance the sword's premium character.
Saya
Made from solid wood, the Saya has a hand-carved octopus finish with a flame motif in a deep orange tone. The textured surface provides both visual depth and a powerful identity.
Sageo in black and gold tones complements the design and ties the whole together.
