The Obsidian Edge is a dark, technically advanced katana with a focus on blade craftsmanship and material selection. The sword is characterized by its hitatsura hamon , copper fittings and an imported Brazilian ebony saya. The style is toned down, raw and uncompromising, designed for practitioners and enthusiasts who value advanced hardening and a distinctive visual expression.
Blade
The blade is forged from T10 steel and advanced clay-hardened with hitatsura hamon . This hardening technique is significantly more demanding than traditional hamon and results in an irregular, vibrant pattern that extends across larger areas of the blade.
The blade is hand-polished in several steps to highlight the contrast and depth of the hamon and give the blade a more powerful and functional impression.
Tsuba + Tsuka
The tsuba and other fittings are made of copper , with detailed dragon motifs that give both visual weight and classic character.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton over genuine white samegawa (stingray leather) . Underneath the wrapping are decorative menuki that contribute to both balance and grip. The handle is well proportioned and stable in the hand.
Saya
The Saya is made from imported Brazilian ebony , a very dense and durable wood with a natural dark luster. The finish is understated and elegant, complemented by matching sageo that harmonizes with the rest of the sword's aesthetics.
