Inspired by the depths and silent power of the ocean, the Sea Stinger is a katana where aesthetics and craftsmanship meet in perfect balance. The dark blue saya with its subtle dot structure evokes a nocturnal ocean, while the wave-shaped details of the tsuba enhance the marine theme.
The contrast between the muted suede wrapping and the hand-finished copper fittings creates a sophisticated expression. The Sea Stinger is a katana for the collector who appreciates subtle luxury and thoughtful material selection.
Blade
The blade is hand-forged from T10 high carbon steel, a steel known for its high carbon content and ability to achieve a very hard edge without losing structure. After forging, the blade undergoes a traditional clay tempering (differential hardening), where the back is covered with a thicker layer of clay while the edge is left thinner for heating and rapid cooling.
This method creates a hard edge of approximately 60 HRC for maximum wear resistance, while the back retains a slightly softer structure to provide balance and resistance to cracking.
The resulting hamon line is clear and vivid, a wavy, cloud-like pattern that gives the blade its name. The manual 18-step grinding and mirror polishing highlight both the hardening line and the structure of the steel, creating a deep visual play of light and shadow.
Tsuba + Tsuka
The fittings are made with copper as the base metal and decorated in silver and gold finishes. The tsuba has a detailed wave motif that gives a three-dimensional depth and reinforces the Sea Stinger's identity.
The tsuka is wrapped in grey suede over white samegawa (stingray leather). The suede wrapping provides a softer, more premium feel compared to traditional cotton, and creates a subtle contrast to the warmer metallic tones.
Saya
The saya is lacquered in a deep dark blue tone with a fine dot structure that gives a pearl-like depth. The kojiri, koiguchi and kurigata are made of genuine horn, a traditional and durable material that both enhances the aesthetics and protects the most exposed parts of the saya. The blue/white sageon is hand-wrapped and matches the ocean theme, giving a harmonious overall impression.
